It's been over three years since Talib Kweli's poignant Eardrum and the hip hop world has been missing his presence. Now equipped with his own label, Talibra, the conscious mastermind has released the first single off his upcoming Gutter Rainbows. “Cold Rain” houses a grimy piano beat that escalates as a gospel choir sings the chorus, Kweli repeating “Still standing right here/I ain't going nowhere.” The track is a monument to his fans, reminiscent of his early hip hop. In a recent interview with SoulCulture, Kweli talks about how his fans don't believe he can top the lyrics he crafted in his Blackstar days, claiming that he is now a much better writer. It appears he is highly motivated, releasing Gutter Rainbows on January 25 and another LP, Prisoner of Consciousness, later in 2011.
