The Leeds five-piece Eagulls made it through the gauntlet of this year's CMJ festival with a lot of buzz at their backs, but you'll get the hype pretty much instantly if you sample "Tough Luck." Rumbling, industrial bassline, check; thunderous drums, check; moshpit-inciting vocals (courtesy frontman George Mitchell, taking a tip from Iceage's Elias Ronnenfelt), check; catchy, shimmery post-punk guitar line, double check - basically, I know it's early, but it's Wednesday, so it's almost the weekend; you need to crank it up loud, headbang along in the kitchen while you make coffee, and start booking house shows. And if this seems like an illogical progression, you need to listen to the song again. "Tough Luck" is the lead single from Eagulls' upcoming self-titled debut, out March 4, 2014, so let's hope an SXSW trip is in store. Check it out.
