Yeah Yeah Yeahs' frontwoman Karen O announced today her first solo album, Crush Songs, though, if we're going to be technical about this, the singer/songwriter has been making her own music away from the New York band for years now. From working with David Sitek to recording the soundtrack for Where the Wild Things Are, released under the moniker Karen O and the Kids, to receiving an Academy Award nomination for "The Moon Song," from last year's terrific sci-fi film, Her, Karen has been nothing short of prolific as a solo artist. Not to mention everything she's done with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Crush Songs, her first "official" solo release, came with a note Karen posted onto her website. See below.
The album drops on September 8th in the UK and on the 9th in the U.S./Canada via Julian Cassablancas' label, Cult. Stay tuned for a debut single, hopefully it comes out soon. In the meanwhile, revisit "All Is Love" from the Where the Wild Things Are soundtrack.
