Today in New York, Spotify announced a series of new features to stay competitive in an increasingly crowded market. They’re calling it “the most entertaining Spotify ever,” boasting new video and radio services.

The former seems like a direct reaction to Jay Z’s beleaguered streaming service TIDAL. (So far, TIDAL seems most compelling when it hosts exclusive video engagements, such as their live-stream of Prince’s much buzzed-about Rally4Peace concert in Baltimore, or Jay Z’s own recent b-sides show in New York.) The latter seems like another knock against the old faithful Pandora. Or perhaps Apple’s own uninspired internet radio service iTunes Radio. Notably, Spotify’s announcement comes only weeks before Apple is set to announce their on-demand music streaming service at their annual Worldwide Developer Conference on June 8.
