Album Stream: Angel Olsen - Burn Your Fire For No Witness

Angel Olsen Burn Your Fire

My favorite Angel Olsen lyric ever is from "Creator / Destroyer," the closing track of her 2011 tape release Strange Cacti, and it's "I'm out of my mind to be in love with you the way that I'm in love with you, fuck you, fuck this and everything we've done." By which I mean, what makes Olsen such a compelling songwriter in my eyes is her knack for juxtaposing the heartbroken and the truly, deeply, almost scarily angry - and it's everywhere on her new record, Burn Your Fire For No Witness, as well. We've heard her popper early singles like "Hi-Five" and "Forgiven / Forgotten," but now the whole record's streaming on NPR and you need to acquaint yourself with the deep cuts, if you've got the emotional fortitude. I'd list highlights but I'd list the whole record, so let's start with "High and Wild" and "Stars." You can grab a physical copy February 18.
