Reputable musicians like Lucinda Williams, Dr. Dog, Andrew Bird and My Morning Jacket are lending their talents to a compilation album, Twistable, Turnable Man: A Musical Tribute to the songs of Shel Silverstein. One big question mark pops up i my head — Shel Silverstein, the author of classic children's books like Where The Sidewalk Ends and The Giving Tree wrote songs? This was news to me.
A quick Wikipedia search has informed me that he wasn't a regular ol' songwriter, but a GRAMMY-winning songwriter whose clientele included Johnny Cash. In his lifetime, Silverstein released 13 albums of songs. A compilation was released posthumously in 2005.
This new tribute album will be released through Sugar Hill on June 8th. You can listen to Andrew Bird cover "The Twistable Turnable Man Returns" below.
