Brooklyn’s Family Band make a kind of quietly apocalyptic, otherworldly indie folk that’s as mesmerizing as it is unsettling. Take new single “Moonbeams” as an example: singer Kim Krans mulls over cryptic imagery as her band crafts a chillingly, stark beautiful soundscape behind her. That middle section, when Krans repeats “I gotta hear” and the guitar, piano, and background vocals seem on a loop, feels like being trapped in time. The band’s new record Grace and Lies drops July 24 – you’ll have no problem putting this on repeat during every rainy day in the meantime. Check it out.
