Conor Oberst - "Governor's Ball"

Conor Oberst Upside Down Mountain

Here's our second taste from Conor Oberst's upcoming Upside Down Mountain - "Governor's Ball." The song's title could be a shout-out to the crazy New York festival, and certainly the lyrical content (a dude caravanning with his friends, a girl with "klonopin eyes," a maniacally laughing, unsympathetic security guard) sounds appropriate to that kind of eternal-present feeling, but, of course, the whole thing could be some classically Oberst-ian postmodern rambling; it's reassuring to hear that dude still sounds like Holden Caulfield wryly observing the phony-packed world, even after all these years. Added bonus - that amazing horn section and lovely backing vocals from First Aid Kit. Peruse the tracklist below and check out the cover art, which was made by Ian Felice of the Felice Brothers. You can pick up the record starting May 19.
