New Dan Deacon: "True Thrush"

When we caught one of Dan Deacon’s raucous SXSW sets, we were psyched to hear him preview new material, and it’s been great to hear the new tracks we loved in recorded form as Deacon steadily drops teasers for his excellently titled upcoming album America. This new track, “True Thrush,” reminds us of Deacon’s best, most intimately human cuts (like 2007’s still-our-favorite “Wham City”) – plenty of exuberant electronics can’t detract from those exultant background voices, that clap-along beat, and Deacon’s schoolyard-chant vocals. A lot of hay has been made this year about artists using science fiction-y electronics to explore human feeling (looking at you, Grimes), but these new tracks from Deacon remind us he’s been on top of that for years. America drops August 27.
