New Ellie Goulding: "Anything Could Happen"

"Anything Could Happen" is the lead single from girl that now looks like Skrillex, Ellie Goulding's upcoming sophomore effort Halcyon, which could not come at a better time now that "Lights" is blowing up the American pop charts (it's gone "double-platinum" and is sitting at #2 right now, only behind the great pop song of our times, "Call Me Maybe"). The song's cheeriness sounds like a reaction to her recent success but any cynicism we may have had simply melts away during those "I Know It's Gonna Be"'s at the end. That fleeting moment there is perhaps one of the most uplifting in pop we've heard all year, rivaling, yes, the hook on Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" and fun.'s autotuned Freddie Mercury mimicry.

Halcyon is out October 8/9th.
