Oklahoma native Wayne Coyne is a local hero. The Flaming Lips frontman has tantalized us with rumours of a collaborative effort with chillwave guru Alan Palomo aka Neon Indian and the two outfits have now released a joint 12” four-track EP, limited to only 1000 copies.
He sure knows how to take care of his hometown, Oklahoma being the first out of only two cities (the other one being Dallas) to receive physical copies of the 12”, which obviously sold out in a day. Thanks to trustworthy internet dwellers, we now have a digital version of the opening track, “Is David Bowie Dying?” The dark, brooding cut is evocative of Flaming Lips' sinister psychedelia, with hints of screeching electronica and chillwave effects lurking in the background. It's certainly creepy. Whether or not the rest of the world will have a chance to own the record remains to be unsaid. Listen below:
