Full Stream: Dent May - "Do Things"

Some things that might mislead you about Dent May’s new record, Do Things – he’s from the Mississippi city where William Faulkner wrote many of his dark, inscrutable Southern gothic novels, he’s signed to Animal Collective’s label, Paw Tracks, and his first record was called Dent May and His Magnificent Ukulele. May’s new album is neither Southern-gothic creepy nor AnCo-tribal nor packed with ukulele pyrotechnics (?) – rather, it’s a super-chill, day-drunk summer soundtrack brimming with lilting yacht-y harmonies and ‘80s-inflected dream-pop jams all about hanging out with friends. We love “Fun,” whose brilliant guitars and sexy bass sound like its title, and the sweet, sunny bubblegum of “Wedding Day.” The record’s out physically June 12.
