New Future Islands: "Cotton Flower"

Here’s a new track from Future Islands, “Cotton Flower,” which the Brooklyn label Famous Class is offering as half of a charity 7” (all digital proceeds are going to the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund at VH1’s Save the Music). It’s a gorgeous, shimmering electro-goth cut, frontman Samuel Herring channeling Antony Hegarty’s emotive, operatic vocals over a backbeat sometimes clatteringly industrial and sometimes rife with woozy, fluttering synths that invoke electropop fantasies like those of Grimes. It’s one of those rare songs that manages to sound as nostalgic as it does futuristic. Check it out.
