Just like Kanye's VH1 Storytellers, this will also be epic.
The much-rumored Julie Taymor/Bono collaboration on a Spiderman broadway show was finally confirmed a few days ago by Pitchfork.
Called "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark," the musical could either be great or terrible. Taymor is slated to direct, and Bono (along with The Edge) will write the music and lyrics. Let's just hope that they don't take the show too seriously (think Spider-Man 2, the best of the three movies). Taymor has an excellent resume, with her Broadway show The Lion King and her movie Across The Universe (although Videogum would beg to differ).
Previews will start on January 16, 2010, and the show's opening night will be February 18. In all likelihood, the talented Evan Rachel Wood (who so well-covered The Beatles in ATU) will play Mary Jane.
Pitchfork really does put it best: "Even if this thing turns out to be a shit sandwich, it will most definitely be a spectacularly over-the-top shit sandwich."
In my gut, I don't think it will be a shit sandwich. How about you?
