Up Is Up, But So Is Down is Brandon Stousy, Eileen Myles, and Dennis Cooper'sbook about lower Manhattan's weirdo literary underground from the late '70s to the early '90s, and it's also the title of a new song from Haunted Hearts, the duo of Dee Dee and Brandon Welchez, who play separately in the Dum Dum Girls and Crocodiles and have somehow found free time to make music together. Their take, "Up is Up (But So is Down)," might be one of the best things you hear today, and, with its psychedelic, nostalgic vibe, it sounds just like walking through the east village in the autumn breeze, on your way to photocopy some zines or performance fliers. The duo are gearing up to release a record together called Initiation which you can pick up May 27th; you'll have no trouble putting this on repeat in the meantime. Check it out.
