So I hear that this new Kid Cudi joint — called "REVOFEV", by the way — is the first single from Cudder's sophomore LP, Man On The Moon II: Legend Of Mr. Rager. I'm a bit flabbergasted here. Where is the obligatory "Day N Nite"-esque radio single? Where is the predictable shift to dance-friendly production tricks? Is this not 2010 modern mainstream hip-hop we're talking about?
Let me just take a minute and express how proud I am that Kid Cudi is even considering releasing "REVOFEV" as a first single for the next chapter of his uber-cool concept album series. The track gives several hat-tips to music of yore, and even harbors a bit of theatricality that So You Think You Can Dance can win EMMYS to. Best of all, "REVOFEV" sets the mood and the stage for Cudi's return, and reminds us that he still has a unique lock on our attention and the respect of the game.
