In the last two days, Four Tet's shared a compilation of Percussions material and this new song, "Makondi;" I just went to work, ate lots of cookies, and made huevos rancheros (which admittedly is still a cool accomplishment). I'm jealous of Kieran Hebden's prolific abilities, but at least I get to jam out to the fruit of them on the regular - "Makondi" is a great listen, with jazzy percussion and a bell beat that sounds straight out of the West African music I played in college. It's a re-interpretation by Hebden and drummer Nick Woodmansey (aka. Emanative) of the 1982 jazz single from Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell, also called "Makondi," and it appears on a tribute album called The Light Years of the Darkness, honoring the legacy of drummer Steve Reid. Check it out below.
