Listen: Lone, "Aurora Northern Quarter"

The latest from Matt Cutler is a glorious combination of hip hop and house beats

Last we heard from Matt Cutler a.k.a. Lone was when he remixed Wild Beasts' mesmerizing "A Simple Beautiful Truth." The producer has been putting out some original material as well, in anticipation of Reality Testing, the successor to 2012's Galaxy Garden, having released "Airglow Fires" and "Begin to Begin."

In a press release, Cutler stated that he was listening to a "lot of Detroit techno and old Chicago house" when he realized he wanted to make an album that had "both hip-hop and house beats, but that weren’t completely different from each other, that shared the same sort of vibe.

His latest, "Aurora Northern Quarter" hold true to this statement. The track is a slowly building anthem with little hints of 2-step/garage that accompany the crisp piano chords and ethereal ambiance. It starts off by washing you over, glistening and sparkling as it grows larger, while subsiding you simultaneously. It's the kind of song that has the potential to be an unmistakable banger, but instead purposefully remains calm and melancholic, teasing you ever so slightly.

Needless to say, it's absolutely gorgeous. Reality Testing drops in June via R&S.
