St. Vincent’s massive new album, MASSEDUCTION, certainly her best and most complete, is out today. Listen to it in full below via Spotify. Or you can hear it at Apple Music.
The album was co-written and produced almost entirely alongside pop’s premiere indie-ish hitmaker Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Lorde, Fun.) and also features at various points indie rock maven Jenny Lewis, the world’s most famous living saxophonist Kamasi Washington, actress and ex-flame Cara Delevingne, Kendrick Lamar beatmaker Sounwave, indie superproducer John Congleton, Nine Inch Nails bassist Pino Palladino, among others.
Pre-release singles “New York”, “Los Ageless”, and “Pills”—the three outstanding—loom large on the album but watch out for the Bowiesque title track, defiant and smirking; also, the variegated and transgressive felicity of “Sugarboy”. Later in the album, the arch “Slow Disco” is a minor miracle and “Smoking Section” wraps things up with an adroit gut-punch. The tracks in between are just as good.
