Hamilton Leithauser

The only non-depressing thing about the Walkmen going on possibly permanent hiatus was the promise that many of the band members would be working on solo records. We've heard news from bassist Pete Bauer so far, and here's an official announcement from Hamilton Leithauser, who will release Black Hours May 6th. The album's got an impressive list of credits - Paul Maroon of the Walkmen helped out, as did Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend, Morgan Henderson of Fleet Foxes, and Richard Swift of the Shins. You can sample first single "Alexandra" now - Batmanglij co-wrote and produced the track (you can sense his touch in the swirling string parts), and it comes with a Tristan Patterson-directed video starring Leithauser and a bunch of showgirls. Check it out.
