Adding their storied names to the catalog of interesting collaborations, Lou Reed, formerly of The Velvet Underground, and Metallica, the seminal Los Angeles metal band, doubled up to make a record called Lulu.
First taste “The View” is, uh, interesting – it sounds a little like Reed wrote his vocal part for an entirely different song and decided to lay it over this one just because it sounded like your drunk uncle sing-talking karaoke at a wedding.
The best parts of the song are when Metallica’s de facto frontman James Hetfield takes vocal duties – his fit the rhythm and mood of the song much more accurately. Here’s hoping the rest of the record will live up to its potential. It drops November 1.
