New/Unreleased: Joy Division - "Pictures In My Mind"

Joy Division

It's not every day you get to hear a previously unreleased track by Joy Division. Renown bassist for the band, Peter Hook – which, after the suicide of frontman Ian Curtis, helped front the influential 80s band New Order with the remaining members – is releasing an unfinished Joy Division cut from 1977 called “Pictures In My Mind.”

Hook re-polished, edited and also sings the lead vocals on the song, the result sounding different than what one would expect, though he did promise to release the original version with Curtis's vocals on it as well. The song will appear on a forthcoming EP by Hook's new band, The Light, which will also feature three Joy Division classics (“Atmosphere,” “Insight,” “New Dawn Fades”) sung by British songstress Rowetta.

“Pictures In My Mind” was premiered live on BBC Radio 1 but there's an excellent radio rip streaming below; The Light's 1102/2011 EP drops May 9th on Hook's very own Hacienda Records.
