As human beings, we get a little huffy when someone tells us that something that used to be free will suddenly not be free anymore.
This is kind of the case with The Weeknd's seminal (yes) mixtape trilogy. The enigmatic singer will be commercially releasing his three previously free mixtapes through a major label. It's strange for many reasons (and it directly and obviously contradicts the spirit of self-releasing music on the internet), but it's happening and it comes with "remastered" versions of the mixtape tracks as well as three new songs.
While we are surprised that someone known for being hyper-prolific is only releasing three new songs almost a year after his last release, we can't deny that we're exciting that we're getting three new songs from The Weeknd.
Abel has been spending the promotional cycle for Trilogy mostly focusing on his greatest hits –– he has released videos for "Rolling Stone" and "Wicked Games" –– and not the onlt three new songs on the album. But it seems he's finally throwing us a bone.
Behold, a creepy thirty second teaser of a new song called "Valerie," which is decidedly not a Zutons/Winehouse cover.
As the video suggests, Trilogy is out November 13.
