Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson records as The Tallest Man on Earth, and has been doing so for a while. His fourth album under that name, Dark Bird is Home, is notable for wandering beyond Matsson's comfort zone. Though the content seems as despondent as ever, the music feels spirited. The occasional synthesizer and splashes of brass give the project color. (Before now, Matsson's music was, for the most part, acoustic.) It's a welcome update to Matsson's sound, one that helps him reframe some of the folk tropes his songs often toy with.
