New: The Drums - "I Can't Save Your Life"

The Drums

Brooklyn's the Drums dropped their second album Portamento at the end of the summer, and they’ve been busy since then – latest single from the record “How It Ended” features a brand-new b-side “I Can’t Save Your Life.”

It’s catchy in a classic Drums way – simple, surf-y guitar and a postpunk-y bassline underlie frontman Johnathan Pierce’s warm, low croons of “girlfriend, I can’t save your life again.” The band do show some signs of breaking free of the rather strict mode they’ve been writing songs in since their 2009 breakout in the song’s latter half, employing spiraling synths and atmospheric effects to move in an unexpected, experimental vein. Give it a listen.
