Check Out: Naomi Punk - "Burned Body"

Naomi Punk

Seattle’s Naomi Punk make a special breed of electrifying, arty hardcore that’s also hypnotic to the point of meditative, if that makes sense – the tracks on 2012’s excellent The Feeling are heavy and slow and steady, and every song has its cathartic (but not quite calming, we concede) repeated mantra. Our favorite is “Burned Body,” for its stop-motion, anthemic chorus that stomps rhythmically like a slowed-down strobe light (“being human can be such a drag” is probably our eternal life motto), and now it has a video, by Robin Stein, Margaret Jones, and Jesse Brown, that effortlessly matches the track’s sharp, minimalist mystique, and might be the best you see this week. Check it out.
